Finalmente fui ver este filme. É essa a introdução.
O filme passa-se numa pequena sociedade construída no meio de um deserto, onde todos os dias os homens e maridos saem de casa para ir trabalhar num projeto a que eles chamam Projeto Vitória, enquanto as mulheres ficam em casa, podendo sair de casa mas não podendo sair da "cidade". O que acontece é que os maridos dizem que o projeto é altamente secreto e as mulheres confiam plenamente neles, e fazem só o que lhes mandam e o que é permitido. Até que a certa altura, Margaret, uma das mulheres, começa a fazer perguntas. Todos começam a achá-la maluca, e querem calá-la. E isto leva a que Alice Chambers (Florence Pugh) comece ela própria a fazer perguntas, a desconfiar do que se passa ali, e no final a desvendar tudo sobre aquele lugar.
Eu adorei este filme. Fui para o cinema já com uma hipótese formada na cabeça sobre o que poderia significar aquela sociedade, pensava tratar-se de uma experiência social do século XX e que poderia ter qualquer coisa a ver com armamento. Mas tinha ainda as minhas dúvidas porque o trailer mostrava também várias coisas difíceis de explicar nesta teoria.
O final é fantástico. Acabou por ser, sim, uma experiência, mas uma experiência tão longe daquilo que eu tinha pensado. O facto de maior parte das mulheres estarem naquela espécie de mundo dos sonhos sem consentimento e todos os homens lhes mentirem todos os dias só porque queriam, basicamente, uma vida melhor para eles, manipulando-as, de certa forma objetificando-as, e retirando-lhes até o facto de serem pessoas colocando-as como apenas imagens numa experiência, torna tudo ainda mais assustador. No final, a audiência fica muito mais próxima de toda aquela experiência e do que as personagens femininas estão a passar, principalmente Alice, porque afinal isto podia ser uma realidade mais próxima do que esperávamos, um futuro e não um passado, e nada do que nós nem elas pensavam que era real o é.
O que fizeram com a música neste filme é também muito curioso. É pela música que Alice encontra a conexão com o mundo real, é o que a ajuda a lembrar de tudo o que a fizeram esquecer. Mas isto também acontece com as imagens mais escuras, aquelas que vemos no cenário negro, nos "sonhos" de Alice enquanto nesta "cidade", que depois percebemos serem mais ligadas com a vida real dela.
Eu adorei também a cinematografia, a imagem e as perspetivas com que tudo nos era mostrado davam ao mesmo tempo uma sensação de conforto mas sentiamos sempre que havia algo que não estava certo ali.
A performance de Florence Pugh faz, na minha opinião, todo o filme. Diria até que pode ser uma performance merecedora de uma nomeação para um Óscar. O Harry também teve uma ótima performance.
Acho que é um filme que leva a pensar sobre muitas coisas [e o facto da Bunny estar lá porque quer, porque provavelmente perdeu os filhos e prefere viver ali com "eles" do que no mundo real sem eles!]. A ação prende-nos do início ao fim. Quero mesmo voltar a vê-lo outra vez, para prestar mais atenção a outros pormenores.

I have finally watched this movie. That's the introduction.
The movie takes place in a small society built in the middle of a desert, where every day the men and husbands get out of the house to work on a project that they call the Victory Project, while the wives stay home, being able to get out of the house but not out of the "town". What happens is that the husbands say that this is a highly secret project and the wives trust them completely, and only do what they're told and what they're allowed. At some point, Margaret, one of the wives, starts asking questions. Everyone begins to think she is crazy and wants to shut her up. And this leads Alice Chambers (Florence Pugh) to also start asking questions herself, suspecting what is happening there, and at the end unveiling everything about that place.
I loved the movie. I went to the cinema already with a hypothesis formed in my mind of what that society could mean, I thought it was a social experiment from the 20th century and that it could have something to do with weaponry. However, I still had my doubts, because the trailer also showed several things that were hard to explain with this theory.
The ending is amazing. It ended up being, yes, an experiment, but one so far from what I thought it would be. The fact that majority of the women were in that dream-like world without consent and all men lie to them every day only because they basically wanted a better life for them, manipulating, in a way objectifying the women, and taking away even the fact that they are people by placing them as merely images in an experiment, makes everything even scarier. In the end, the audience gets a lot closer to the experiment and what the female characters are going through, mainly Alice, because it turns out this could be a reality much closer than we expected, a future and not a past, and nothing about what we or the women thought was real is.
What they made with the music in this movie is also very interesting. It is because of music that Alice finds a connection with the real world, it is what helps her to remember everything they made her forget. But this also happens with the "darker" imagery, those we see in the black scenario, in Alice's "dreams" while in this "town", which we later discover to be more connected with her real life.
I also liked the cinematography a lot, the image and the perspectives with which everything was shown to us gave at the same time a feeling of comfort but we would always feel as if there was something that was not quite right there.
Florence Pugh's performance makes, in my opinion, the whole movie. I would even say this is a performance worthy of an Oscar nomination. Harry also had a great performance.
I think that this is a movie that makes us think about a lot of things [and the fact that Bunny is there because she wants to, because she probably lost her children and would rather live there with "them" than in the real world without them!]. The action holds us from the beginning until the end. I really want to watch it again, to pay more attention to other details.
