Mais um livro de Taylor Jenkins Reid, uma história cativante de um ponto de vista super interessante.
Daisy Jones & The Six é um livro sobre a história de uma banda, os The Six, e como é que Daisy Jones se juntou a eles. A história é contada desde o momento em que a banda foi formada, e desde o momento em que Daisy Jones começou a ir atrás da vida que queria.
É tudo contado pelas personagens. São as personagens que, numa entrevista, estão a contar a sua própria história.
É interessante ver como as perceções de um mesmo acontecimento mudam de pessoa para pessoa e como a memória funciona, como é que cada um se lembra das situações, o que cada um pensa uns dos outros. É nos pormenores que estas diferenças se vêm mais, porque não é necessariamente alguém estar a dizer uma mentira, é assim que eles se lembram porque é assim mesmo que a sua memória permaneceu e mudou com o tempo.
É interessante como também temos a perspetiva de várias pessoas sobre uma situação em que estão todos juntos, como há muitas coisas que não se dizem diretamente, muitas coisas que foram omitidas, como cada um pensa sobre aquilo que acontece.
Claro que nenhum dos narradores pode ser considerado 100% fiel a uma história verdadeira, porque não há uma história verdadeira, há aquilo que é um conjunto de experiências, todas perspetivas diferentes, e todas reais. É o que a vida é. Um conjunto de experiências, por muito que queiramos ver as coisas por uma perspetiva objetiva, não conseguimos, é tudo através de experiências, e este livro prova exatamente que não há uma perspetiva única e objetiva sobre a realidade.
Para além disso, adorei que parece tudo muito real. Parece que as personagens existiram mesmo, que o livro é feito de entrevistas a pessoas reais, que a banda existiu, que tudo aquilo aconteceu. Mas não aconteceu, é totalmente ficção. O que me faz pensar na enorme capacidade que a autora tem para criar histórias humanas, histórias que podiam ser reais. Isto aproxima muito mais a história de quem a está a ler, porque o leitor quase consegue colocar-se no lugar das personagens, mesmo que a história seja sobre uma banda super bem-sucedida. Sentimos que as personagens são reais, e, por isso, sentimos o que eles vivem através da sua própria descrição dos acontecimentos.
E Taylor Jenkins Reid surpreende sempre com os seus plot twists que envolvem quem está creditado como o autor, neste caso, da entrevista, o que faz com que a história fique ainda mais profunda, e mais pessoal.
A minha personagem favorita foi a Karen, pela forma como ela luta por aquilo que quer, pela certeza que tem de si, por apenas fingir não ter a certeza das coisas quando na realidade sabe muito bem o que quer. Por fazer por ela aquilo que tem de fazer.
Fala-se de aborto, drogas, alcolismo e vício, reabilitação, família, amor, música, a indústria, vida e morte. Adorei.

Another Taylor Jenkins Reid book, a compelling story from a super interesting point of view.
Daisy Jones & The Six is a book about the story of a band, The Six, and how Daisy Jones joined them. The story is told from the moment when the band was formed, and from the moment in which Daisy Jones started to go after the life she wanted.
Everything is told by the characters. There are the characters who, through an interview, are telling their own story.
It is interesting to see how the perceptions of the same moment change from person to person and how memory works, how each one remembers the situations, what each one thinks about the others. It is in the details that these differences are the most noticeable because it is not necessarily as if someone is telling a lie, this is how they remember what happened because it is how their memory remained and changed with time.
It is also interesting how we have the perspective of several people about a situation in which they are all together, how there are a lot of things which are not directly said, a lot of omitted things, and how each one thinks about what's happening.
Of course, none of the narrators can be considered 100% faithful to a true story, because there is no true story, there is a set of experiences, each one a different perspective, and each one real. It is what life is. A set of experiences, as much as we want to see things from an objective perspective, we can't, it is all through experiences, and this book proves exactly that there is not one unique and objective perspective about reality.
Apart from this, I loved how much everything seems very real. It feels that the characters really existed, that the book is made of interviews with real people, that the band existed, that all that happened. But it didn't, it is totally fiction. This makes me think about the huge ability that the author has to create human stories, stories that could be real. This makes the story much closer to the reader because they can almost place themselves in the characters' shoes, even if the story is about a very successful band. We feel that the characters are real and, because of that, we feel that they live through their own description of the events.
And Taylor Jenkins Reid always surprises with the plot twists that involve who is credited as the author, in this case, of the interview, which makes the story deeper, and more personal.
My favourite character was Karen, because of the way she fights for what she wants, for the certainty about herself, for only pretending to not be sure of things when really she knows very well what she wants. To do what she has to.
It talks about abortion, drugs, alcoholism and addiction, rehabilitation, family, love, music, the industry, life and death. I loved it.
