Acho que tenho de culpar a insistência da Netflix por ter visto esta série, que se tornou uma das minhas séries favoritas.
The Witcher é uma série baseada nos livros de um escritor polaco, Andrzej Sapkowski. E estes livros são livros muito conhecidos na Polónia, e grandes referências na escrita de fantasia deste país.
A história é-nos apresentada na primeira temporada, com as três personagens principais separadas e ao longo de toda a temporada é-nos mostrado o caminho que fazem para se encontrarem, principalmente Gerald e Ciri. Descobrimos também o que faz personagens tão diferentes estarem ligadas pelo destino e conhecemos o mundo em que vivem e como funciona.
Uma das coisas mais interessantes da primeira temporada é como o tempo e a cronologia dos acontecimentos não é explícita, e é uma das melhores sensações para quem está a ver conseguir descobrir e separar os acontecimentos e perceber o objetivo com que estes "saltos" são feitos, que é para mim uma das melhores coisas bem conseguidas desta série. Não é nem uma vez usada uma legenda como "X anos antes".
Na segunda temporada já estamos num lado da história que aponta mais para descobrir o poder que Ciri tem, e há muito mais personagens significativas envolvidas, muito mais ação. E descobrimos (ou como Henry disse numa entrevista sobre Gerald, vemos a ser desbloqueado) um lado de Gerald que nos faz construir ainda mais simpatia pela personagem.
Nunca vi uma série de fantasia que gostasse tanto. Normalmente sinto que há uma pressa em começar a ação e em avançar com o enredo e nenhuma preocupação em apresentar o novo mundo à audiência, perdendo-se depois o impacto que a história podia ter tido.
É difícil escrever sobre uma série destas porque sinto que tenho explicar muita coisa que só se aprende a vê-la, e também não queria escrever spoilers porque The Witcher é mesmo uma série que ganha pelas descobertas que conduz a audiência a fazer, sem muitas vezes dizê-las explicitamente.
Sei que muitas cenas da série foram adaptadas e modificadas para transmitir melhor a história de um ponto de vista de criar algo que é baseado nos livros e respeitá-los, mas ao mesmo tempo algo novo. Quero muito ler os livros para poder comparar, e mal posso esperar pela 3ª temporada!

I think Netflix and its persistence are to blame for making me watch this series, which became one of my favourite series.
The Witcher is a series based on the books by a polish writer, Andrzej Sapkowski. And these books are well-known in Poland and are great references in fantasy writing for this country.
The story is presented in the first season, with the three main characters being separated and throughout the season we see their path to find one another, mainly Gerald and Ciri. We also find out what makes such different characters be linked by destiny and get to know the world in which they live and how it works.
One of the most interesting things about the first season is how time and the chronology of the events is not explicit, and it is one of the best feelings for someone watching the series to be able to discover and separate events and understand the purpose with which these "jumps" are made, which is, from my point of view, one of the best achievements of this series. It is not once used the legend "X years before".
In the second season, we are on a side of the story that points more toward finding out about Ciri's power, and there are a lot of important characters involved in it, and much more action. We also find out (or like Henry said in an interview about Gerald, we see being unblocked) a side of Gerald that makes us build even more sympathy for this character.
I've never watched a fantasy series that I liked this much. Usually, I feel like there's a rush to begin the action and move forward with the plot and no concern in presenting this new world to the audience, which makes it lose the story's impact that it could have had.
It's hard to write about a series like this because I feel like there's a need to explain a lot that we only learn by watching it, and I did not want to write spoilers because The Witcher is so a series that wins by the discoveries that it leads the audience to, without saying them explicitly a lot of times.
I know that a lot of scenes were adapted and modified to be able to transmit better the story from the point of view of creating something that is based on the books and respecting them, but at the same time creating something new. I really want to read the books to be able to compare them to the series, and cannot wait for season three!
