Este é um filme realizado por Woody Allen, uma comédia romântica de desilusão.

A história é essencialmente sobre Bobby, um rapaz que, farto de trabalhar para a empresa do pai em Nova York, decide mudar-se para Hollywood para tentar arranjar emprego na agência do tio, que trabalha como agente de celebridades. No dia em que finalmente consegue uma reunião com o tio, Phil, vê pela primeira vez Vonnie (Kristen Stewart), a secretária particular do tio, e apaixona-se por ela. Ao mesmo tempo, Vonnie está apaixonada pelo tio e por Bobby e, quando Phil decide de uma vez por todas deixar a mulher e ela tem de escolher um dos dois para casar, escolhe Phil em vez de Bobby. Ele volta para Manhattan e começa a trabalhar no clube do irmão mais velho, que é um criminoso, acabando também por se casar com outra mulher com o nome de Veronica e ter um filho com ela. Phil e Vonnie vão visitar o tal famoso clube onde ele trabalha e Bobby reconhece que ela já não é a mesma pessoa, que se tornou em tudo o que negava querer ser, ou seja mexeriqueira e ir a festas de celebridades. Mesmo assim, Bobby ainda a ama, e ela também o ama a ele.

Woody Allen é um dos realizadores mais conhecidos no mundo do cinema, principalmente pelos filmes que realiza centrados na vida de Hollywood. Muitas vezes é criticado pelo facto de todos os seus filmes parecerem o mesmo, mas a verdade é que, como artista, Allen tem um repertório muito definido de temas que gosta de abordar e aperfeiçoar, tentando centrar-se nestes. 

Café Society é um filme que retrata os diferentes tipos de amor que uma pessoa pode ter na sua vida, e também como a reflexão sobre nós, sobre os outros e sobre tudo em geral muda à medida que envelhecemos. O filme retrata muito bem a sensação de chegar ao fim de um certo período da nossa vida e olhar para trás para pensar como poderia ter sido, o que poderia ter sido diferente ou se quereríamos que algo fosse diferente.

Este foi o primeiro filme de Woody Allen que vi. Enquanto o estava a ver senti que era um filme que se via com muita facilidade e que ao mesmo tempo capta a atenção do espetador muito rapidamente. É um filme que retrata a vida de pessoas e à qual nós assistimos, e que é, se pensarmos bem, toda a ideia central de contar uma história. O que achei mais interessante foi que quando o filme acabou não fiquei com a sensação de que me tivesse escapado alguma coisa, muito pelo contrário conseguia pensar no filme e visualizar na minha cabeça tudo o que tinha acontecido, o que prova o quão cativante é, e principalmente o quão visualmente característico é da época que retrata, 1930s.

This is a movie directed by Woody Allen, a romantic comedy of disappointment.

The story is essentially about Bobby, a boy that, sick of working for his father’s company in New York, decides to move to Hollywood to try to get a job in his uncle’s agency, who works as a celebrity agent. At the day that he finally can have a meeting with his uncle, Phil, he sees for the first time Vonnie (Kristen Stewart), his uncle’s secretary, and falls in love with her. At the same time, Vonnie is in love for the uncle and for Bobby and, when Phil decides to leave his wife, she must pick one of them to get married, and she chooses Phil instead of Bobby. He comes back to Manhattan and begins to work in his older brother’s club, who is a criminal, ending up marrying another woman with the name Veronica and having a son with her. Phil and Vonnie come to visit the famous club where Bobby work and he recognize that she is not the same person, that she has become all she despised and all she declined being, which is gossip go to celebrity parties. Even though Bobby still loves her, and she loves him too.

Woody Allen is one of the most known directors in the film industry, mainly for his movies centred in the life in Hollywood. A lot of times he is criticized for the fact that all his movies seem the same, but the truth is that as an artist Allen has a very definite repertoire of themes that he likes to approach and perfect, trying to concentrate on those.

Cafe Society is a movie that portrays the different types of love that one person can have in life, and it is also a reflection about us, about the others and about everything that changes as we grow older. The movie portrays very well the feeling of arriving to the end of a certain period of our lives and looking back to wonder how it could have been, what could be different or if we wanted something to be different.

This was the first Woody Allen’s movie that I saw. When I was watching it, I felt that this was a movie that we can see easily and while this is a movie that catches the attention of the viewer very quickly. It is a movie that pictures people’s lives and we are there watching, which is if we think about it, the central idea of telling a story. What I found most interesting is that when the movie was over, I did not get the feeling of missing something about it, for the contrary, I could think about it and picture everything that happened in my head, which proves how captivating it is, and mainly how visually characteristic it is of the time it portrays, the 1930s.
