CHARLIE'S ANGELS 2019 - Os novos Anjos | The new Angels

“Os Anjos de Charlie” é um filme que estreou em 2019, onde a realizadora, guionista e atriz Elizabeth Banks transforma o conceito da série e dos filmes já existentes para a realidade do século XXI, modernizando-o.

A primeira vez que a história surgiu foi na série (traduzido para português como “As Panteras”), que foi emitida desde 1976 até 1981, criada por Ian Goff e Ben Roberts, e que consistia num grupo de três mulheres que combatia o crime. De seguida foram realizados por McG mais dois filmes, em 2000 e 2003, onde as personagens principais eram representadas pelas atrizes Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore e Lucy Liu.

A história deste filme centra-se em Elena (Naomi Scott), uma engenheira que trabalha para uma empresa que está a desenvolver um projeto tecnológico (Calisto) capaz de controlar energia de forma sustentável, mas que tem uma falha que pode fazer com que seja usado como arma, e o seu superior está a tentar encobri-la. Elena decide expor a empresa, mas, ao encontrar-se com o homem a quem entregaria as informações (que pertence à organização dos Anjos de Charlie), é atacada e tem de fugir. Ela descobre então que existe esta corporação internacional de mulheres que combatem o crime, os Anjos de Charlie, e entra numa missão para recuperar os protótipos defeituosos com Sabina (Kristen Stewart), um Anjo rebelde, e Jane (Ella Balinska), uma ex-agente do MI6. À medida que o tempo passa, cada vez mais Elena tem de se moldar perante as novas situações que aparecem no seu caminho e, com ajuda de Sabina e Jane, conseguimos observar a sua transformação num Anjo, o que ela nunca pensou vir a ser.

Elizabeth Banks teve sempre como principal objetivo não só fazer um filme apenas sobre 3 mulheres que trabalham para uma agência de combate ao crime, que são poderosas e bonitas, mas sim ampliar este conceito para todas as mulheres do mundo, em resposta à sociedade em que vivemos, e a parte final do filme mostra exatamente que qualquer mulher não só pode, como é um Anjo.

As atrizes para os papeis principais foram escolhidas, portanto, com muito cuidado. Kristen Stewart foi contactada por Elizabeth Banks ainda antes de o guião estar escrito, porque a realizadora insistia que ela tinha de estar neste filme por causa de tudo aquilo que representa e acredita. Naomi Scott tinha participado no filme “Power Rangers” (2017) com a realizadora e Ella Balinska mostrou na audição não ter apenas competências de atriz, mas também conhecimento de combate e armas.

Acho que, apesar de o filme ser uma espécie de continuação dos anteriores, consegue destacar-se como diferente e inovador, não se centrando apenas na ação de apanhar o culpado, mas tendo também como objetivo de passar a mensagem do poder, força e união das mulheres. A de que qualquer um tem o poder para ser o que quiser.

“Charlie’s Angels” is a movie released in 2019, in which the director, screenwriter and actor Elizabeth Banks transforms the concept of the previous series and movies to the reality of the 21^st century, modernizing it.

The first time that this story appeared was in the series, that was on the air between 1976 and 1981, created by Ian Goff and Ben Roberts, and consisted in a group of three women that fought crime. After this, two more movies were directed by McG, in 2000 and 2003, where the main characters were represented by the actresses Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu.

This movie’s story is centered in Elena (Naomi Scott), an engineer that works for a company that is developing a technological project (Calisto) that is capable of controlling energy in a sustainable way, but it has a programming failure that makes it possible to be used as a weapon, and her superior is trying to cover it up. Elena decides to expose the company, but, when she is talking to the man to whom she would give the information (that belong to the Charlie’s Angels’ organization), is attacked, and has to run away. She discovers that exists an international organization of women that fight crime, the Charlie’s Angels, and enters in a mission to recover the defective prototypes with Sabina (Kristen Stewart), a rebel Angel, and Jane (Ella Balinska), a former MI6 agent. As time goes by, Elena has to mold herself for the new situations that cross her path and, with Sabina and Jane’s help, we can see her transforming into an Angel, which she never thought she could become.

Elizabeth Banks always had as her main purpose not only doing a movie about 3 women that worked for an agency that fights crime, who are powerful and pretty, but to also amplify this concept for every women around the world, as an answer to the society that we live in today, and the movie’s final shows exactly that every women not only can, but is an Angel.

The stars were picked very carefully. Kristen Stewart was called by Elizabeth Banks before the script was written, because the director insisted that she needed to be in this movie because of everything she represents and believes. Naomi Scott had participated in the movie “Power Rangers” (2017) with the director and Ella Balinska showed in the audition not only having great acting skills, but also the knowledge of combat and guns.

I think that, even though the movie is a kind of continuation of the previous ones, it is able to excel as different and innovator, not centering the story only in the action of catching the bad guy, but also having the purpose of pass the message of the women’s power, strength and union. That anyone has the power to be whatever they want to be.
